Job Description and Duties

Under the direction of an Environmental Program Manager or Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisor) for the Fisheries Branch Anadromous Fishes Conservation and Management Program, the incumbent will act as lead coordinator and technical expert for Central Valley Chinook salmon management, particularly threatened and endangered runs.  The position is responsible for Central Valley-wide coordination of listed species recovery planning, habitat restoration programs, inland and ocean harvest management, and research and monitoring programs for Central Valley Chinook salmon.  The incumbent is also the Fisheries Branch technical lead for California Endangered Species Act compliance of winter-run and spring-run Chinook salmon, and responsible for administering, coordinating, and developing the Department’s position on recovery of these runs.

In addition, the incumbent is the technical lead in coordinating sustainable management of fall and late fall-run Chinook salmon. The position will participate, develop, and facilitate Department and multi-stakeholder forums, provide technical and policy guidance on Central Valley Chinook Salmon issues, coordinate development of fisheries management plans, review State legislation, and review and revise Department policies and procedures for Central Valley Chinook Salmon. The position will liaise with state and federal government departments, water agencies, resource conservation districts and non-governmental organizations, to promote, improve, and protect Central Valley Chinook Salmon populations and fisheries.
