Job Description and Duties

Under the general direction of the Vice Chancellor, Digital Innovation & Infrastructure, the IT Specialist I will function as an Information Security Specialist for the Chancellor's Office. The IT Specialist will develop, administer, and monitor systems that provide information security to the Chancellor's Office. The IT Specialist will develop and administer information security plans, policies, procedures and standards. The IT Specialist calls upon technical expertise. tools, and best practices available from grantees, contractors, and the State of CA and adopts relevant ones to the Chancellor's Office. The IT Specialist serves as a subject matter expert and representative to committees, advisory boards, and other efforts to improve information security for the California Community College system wide. The IT Specialist will be deeply involved with any information security assessments. audits, and work with all areas of the agency to develop remediation and improvement plans.

The mission of the California Community Colleges Board of Governors and the Chancellor's Office is to empower the community colleges through leadership, advocacy and support. The California Community Colleges is the largest system of higher education in the nation, with 2.2 million students attending 115 colleges in 73 districts. Our colleges provide students with the knowledge and background necessary to compete in today’s economy. With a wide range of educational offerings, the colleges provide workforce training, basic courses in English and math, certificate and degree programs and preparation for transfer to four-year institutions. 

The Digital Innovation & Infrastructure division is responsible for a full range of administrative services relating to research, accountability and management information systems. The division consists of units in Management Information Systems, Applications Development & Network Support, Research & Data Analytics, and Strategic Projects.
