Job Description and Duties

BCDC is looking for an Office Assistant (Typing)* or Office Technician (Typing)* to support the agency’s Sediment Management Program and Planning Division. The position will play a critical role assisting staff in document development and production; interfacing with the Commission, stakeholders, and the public; maintaining the agency’s positive and professional image; and managing day to day schedules and office functions.

*Duties will be assigned commensurate with the level at which the position is filled.

Essential Job Functions.

  • Document Development and Management. Assist in editing, formatting and finalizing documents for staff including: staff reports, environmental assessments, permits, policy documents, meeting summaries, presentations, contracts, grant applications, work programs, correspondence, and other miscellaneous documents.

  • Administrative Assistance. Assist staff in work flow and production, preparation for public meetings, maintain databases and mailing lists, schedule meetings and meeting space, work with the information technology staff in posting information to our website, and maintain office equipment.

  • Receptionist. Staff the reception desk for 2 -3 hours daily, greeting visitors, answering telephone, and processing and delivering mail. 

  • Additional Support. Provide back up support to other units as needed.

The award-winning San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission (BCDC) is a State of California government department located in the City of San Francisco with regulatory and planning responsibilities over San Francisco Bay, the Suisun Marsh, salt ponds, and along the Bay Area’s nine-county shoreline. BCDC is guided in its actions by state and federal laws, policies, and regulations including: the McAteer-Petris Act, Suisun Marsh Preservation Act, Coastal Zone Management Act, San Francisco Bay Plan, Suisun Marsh Protection Plan and various special area plans.

The ideal candidate will have a strong working knowledge of computer software, including Word, Excel, Power Point, Adobe Acrobat, Outlook, and File Maker Pro, and the ability to create and maintain records, electronic and hard copy files. The candidate should have proficient knowledge of modern office management techniques, and operate office equipment, such as printers, scanners, and copiers.


This is a full-time, permanent position. The vacancy will be filled by one of the following   classifications:

  • Office Assistant (Typing), Range A          $2,509 – $3,141/month

  • Office Assistant (Typing), Range B          $2,719 – $3,407/month

  • Office Technician (Typing)                       $3,144 – $3,935/month
