Job Description and Duties

Our Information Technology Bureau seeks an enthusiastic and motivated person for its Information Securuty Officer (Information Technology Specialist I) position.


Under the general direction of the Chief Information Officer (CIO), the incumbent performs all functions as the Department's Information Security Officer (ISO). The ISO is responsible for directing, planning, controlling, and implementing information security practices throughout the Department's IT and business technology infrastructure, to ensure that the State Library is in compliance with all applicable statutory, regulatory, and control agency security standards. The ISO must keep abreast of the latest security and privacy legislation, regulations, advisories, alerts and vulnerabilities pertaining to the State Library and its mission. The incumbent is responsible for the information security of the State Library's Technical Architecture and for the Technology Disaster Recovery planning for all State Library systems. Additionally, the incumbent acts as the Department's Privacy Officer and is responsible for the maintenance of the Privacy Policy.

This position is designated under the Conflict of Interest Code. The position is responsible for making or participating in the making of governmental decisions that may potentially have a material effect on personal financial interests. The appointee is required to complete Form 700 within 30 days of appointment and once per year. Failure to comply with the Conflict of Interest Code requirements may void the appointment.

Working Conditions

The incumbent works in an office setting, with artificial light and temperature control. Daily access to and use of a personal computer and telephone is essential when working in the office setting. Core business hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., but periodic overtime is required for planned after hours work to minimize interruptions to business. Travel may be required to attend meetings, training classes, or to support the State Library Staff located at other locations.


Ability to operate a computer/keyboard and other office equipment, such as telephone, printer, and copier. May have to move materials and equipment, including equipment and boxes up to 50 pounds periodically.

• Current with existing cyber threat landscape. Required to stay current with latest trends and developments.

• Knowledge of cybersecurity policies and industry best practices such as the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) special publications.

• Experience as an Information Security Officer for a state government department, state government agency, or large multi-national private sector corporation.

• Security Professional certifications; specifically, Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP).
