Job Description and Duties

The Department of Business Oversight is recruiting for one (1) permanent/full-time Coropration Examiner (will consider Auditor I) position in the Legal Division’s Securities Regulation Unit. The position will be located in Los Angeles or San Francisco.This recruitment may be used to fill subsequent vacancies of these positions in DBO within the next 180 days.

Under the general supervision of the Assistant Chief Counsel of the Legal Division, and will receive instruction from the Corporations Examiner IV (Specialist), the Corporate Examiner conducts regulatory examinations audits and provides assistance to the Securities Regulation Unit with basic and technical administrative duties to ensure compliance with provisions of the Corporate Securities Law and the Franchise Investment Law (“Law”) and the rules thereunder.

Working Conditions

The Los Angeles office is located in the heart of the downtown financial district within walking distance to restaurants, transit, multiple parking options and the San Francisco office is located in the heart of the financial district within walking distance to BART and restaurants.

Department Information

The Department of Business Oversight (DBO) protects consumers and oversees financial service providers and products. The DBO supervises the operations of state-licensed financial institutions, including banks, credit unions and money transmitters. Additionally, the DBO licenses and regulates a variety of financial service providers, including securities brokers and dealers, investment advisers, payday lenders and other consumer finance lenders. Special Requirements

The positions requires incumbents pass a Background Investigation prior to being hired. The Background Investigation may include Criminal Background, Fingerprinting, and a review of any governmental records. In addition, other available sources of background information may be reviewed prior to appointment.

Interested applicants must include a copy of their complete transcripts showing completion of required coursework. Foreign Degrees must provide Degree Evaluation to verify U.S. equivalency. Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
  1. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  2. Experience performing regulatory and Special examinations.
  3. Experience preparing exam reports, memorandums, work papers, enforcement referrals, drafting regulatory and deficiency letters.
  4. Demonstrated possession of strong analytical skills and advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel with an ability to use Excel to export data from CPM software and generate reports.
  5. Is a Certified Public Accountant and/or Certified Fraud Examiner.
  6. Knowledge or work experience with the Corporate Securities Law
  7. Knowledge or work experience with federal securities law.
