Job Description and Duties

Under the direction of the Commissioner of the Department of Business Oversight (DBO), the Deputy Commissioner of Legislation advises, consults with, and assists the Commissioner in identifying and analyzing problems, presenting solutions, and executing studies and reports relative to matters requiring legislation, and in certain circumstances, regulatory change. The incumbent monitors policy trends of the financial services industry under the Commissioner’s jurisdiction and is knowledgeable in related economic trends, public policies, financial influences and legal actions that affect the regulation and supervision of licensees.

Working Conditions

The Sacramento office is located in a convenient midtown location within walking distance to light rail, restaurants, Capitol Park, and the Golden 1 Center. The Department of Business Oversight anticipates moving their Sacramento office to the north Natomas area within the next 6 months.

    Department Information

    The Department of Business Oversight (DBO) protects consumers and oversees financial service providers and products. The DBO supervises the operations of state-licensed financial institutions, including banks, credit unions and money transmitters. Additionally, the DBO licenses and regulates a variety of financial service providers, including securities brokers and dealers, investment advisers, payday lenders and other consumer finance lenders.
