Job Description and Duties

This position requires the incumbent to maintain consistent and regular attendance; communicate effectively (orally and in writing if both appropriate) in dealing with the Executive staff and/or other employees; develop and maintain knowledge and skill related to specific tasks, materials, tools and equipment; complete assignments in a timely and efficient manner; and adhere to department policies and procedures regarding attendance, leave and conduct.

Under the direction of the Chief Deputy Manager, the Associate Governmental Program Analyst (AGPA) performs a variety of complex tasks, independently or on a team. The AGPA should be highly analytical and be knowledgeable in Outlook and Microsoft programs. The AGPA will be required to work effectively and cooperatively under pressure, maintain a routine workload and regularly respond to short-term tasks. The AGPA will review, analyze, process, and prepare responses to a variety of forms, documents and correspondence. The AGPA may be required to work overtime as necessary and must be able to work independently and in a team environment.

The AGPA will independently read, review, analyze, process, and prepare responses to a variety of forms, documents, and correspondence. The AGPA will ensure consistency in processing of correspondence and other documents and processes and will ensure that deadlines are met. The AGPA will conduct independent research and evaluation, conduct analysis of policy options, and review legislation.

The AGPA will conduct independent research and analysis to complete reports as necessary. These reports may be of a programmatic, policy or fiscal nature and may be for the use of Cal Expo/California State Fair management, the legislature, public information staff, and media. The AGPA will perform detailed analyses and prepare written narrative, such as briefing papers, issue memos, and policy letters.

Attend and participate in meetings and conference calls with Executive staff and external stakeholders. Identify and elevate to management decisions, deadlines and timeframes follow-up actions within the appropriate scope of responsibility, allowing adequate time for management review as necessary.

Working Conditions

Must have the ability to work some evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Cal Expo is home to the California State Fair and plays host to hundreds of other signature events each year.
