T
he Monitoring and Laboratory Division’s Operations and Data Support Section is seeking an enthusiastic individual with an electronics background and solid diagnostic skills to perform electronics and instrumentation repair work oncomplex electronic air quality monitoring instrumentation used to support California Air Resources Board’s (CARB) ambient air monitoring programs. Under the direction of the section manager, the incumbent will work as a team member in the section’s instrument repair laboratory. Using a variety of electronic and analytical test equipment, the successfulcandidate will perform troubleshooting, repair, modification, testing, and maintenance repair work on complex air monitoring equipment, instrumentation and samplers used in the State's ambient air monitoring network. In addition, the incumbent will consult with instrument manufacturers, local air district personnel, and CARB staff regarding air monitoring instrument operations, malfunctions and design deficiencies. This job will provide an opportunity for the candidate to work in a variety of CARB air monitoring programs.

Working Conditions

SACRAMENTO LOCATION: The California Air Resources Board (CARB) offices are located in the beautiful CalEPA building in downtown Sacramento.
  • Daily use of a personal computer, office equipment, and/or telephone.
  • Must be able to move/transport air monitoring equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
Applicants should have a background in electronics which includes, but is not limited to, knowledge of printed circuit boards, understanding schematic diagrams, troubleshooting at instrument component level, AC/DC circuits, and diagnostic skills. Demonstrate ability to exercise independent judgement in resolving installation, maintenance, repair, and operational problems with air monitoring instrumentation and samplers used in the State's ambient air monitoring program. Be able to perform corrective measures and provide technical guidance to CARB and other agency staff in accordance with skill level. Independently troubleshoot and problem solve instrument malfunctions. Demonstrate ability to work independently or as a team member. Desire to do limited field work.
