Job Description and Duties

Under the direction and supervision of the Staff Services Manager, the Associate Governmental Program Analyst (APGA) will perform complex duties associated with legislative analysis, tracking, advocacy, and legislative relations. The position requires strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to explain complex topics in a clear, concise, and understandable manner and provide support on a wide variety of department and legislative issues. The AGPA will independently perform thorough research to accurately compile and present information to audiences including the leadership of the Department of State Hospitals (DSH), the California Health and Human Services Agency (Agency), the Governor’s Office, other departments, legislators, stakeholders, or the public.

Working Conditions

  • In early 2021, DSH will be moving to a new 11 floor high rise building at 1215 O Street.
  • Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, DSH employees are currently being offered flexible scheduling and teleworking opportunities.
This position is currently operating remotely full-time. The position may transition back to in-person when possible.

The mission of the Department of State Hospitals is to provide evaluation and treatment in a safe and responsible manner, seeking innovation and excellence in hospital operations, across a continuum of care and settings.

In early 2021, DSH is scheduled to move into a modern, sustainable and innovative office building currently under construction and located at 1215 “O” Street, Sacramento, California. Some of the amenities of the new building will include the following:

  • First-floor retail space (separate access from 12th Street)

  • Café with multiple vendors available to the public

  • Outdoor seating with pedestrian walkways

  • Large shared conference room on the first floor with a maximum capacity of 162 individuals

  • An employee fitness center with a yoga studio, cardio equipment and weights

  • Plaza area with a kitchenette on each floor 

  • Shared Terrace space on the 10th floor with indoor/outdoor seating and views of the Capitol

  • Mobile computer equipment, cloud-based technology and Wi-Fi for all staff
