Job Description and Duties

Under administrative direction of the Office of Business Management Staff Services Manager II (SSMII), the Public and Legislative Affairs Branch Manager has full responsibility for effectively communicating all aspects of information activities and objectives of the District in accordance with the Department’s overall goals. To be in close coordination with the District Director and Deputy District Director of Administration on urgent and/or complex issues. The incumbent is responsible for: Monitoring the program’s functions and providing effective communication (both written and verbal) in the guidance and direction of staff and the professional conduct of the program. Responsible for recommending appropriate courses of action and coordinating, reviewing, and evaluating the information prior to dissemination for management approval and public application; Support to the District Director, Deputy District Directors, and other top management on critical public relation implications and related activities for the District. Responsible to promote knowledge and use of the Department’s projects, programs, and services.

Working Conditions

Position located in Stockton, San Joaquin County

The incumbent will work primarily in a climate-controlled office under artificial lighting. However, due to unexpected heating and air conditioning problems, building temperature may fluctuate. The incumbent may be required to travel in one-day trips as well as make overnight trips. Due to the nature of the position, may be required to work varying hours, and will receive telephone calls at all hours of the day and night. Incumbent is also expected to be on call 24/7 to respond to any and all highway emergencies and/or media calls. When participating in events may need to work outdoors in varying temperatures for several hours at a time. Incumbent is also expected to be on call 24/7 to respond to any and all highway emergencies and/or media calls. Field work may consistent of working in extreme hot or cold temperatures and possible inclement weather. Employee will also be required to travel throughout California.

New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.
