Job Description and Duties

The California Energy Commission seeks an Energy Resources Specialist III (Supervisory) in the Energy Research & Development Division’s Energy Systems Research Office. Under the general direction of the Energy Resources Specialist III (Managerial) (ERS Manager) for the Energy Systems Research Office, the Energy Resources Specialist III (ERS Supervisor) is the first-level supervisor and performs a variety of supervisory, program evaluation and planning, and policy analysis and formulation. The ERS Supervisor will supervise teams, which are comprised of engineers and scientists. The incumbent is knowledgeable in advanced energy technologies and/or competitive energy markets; participates in R&D program planning and implementation; supervises and provides leadership to interdisciplinary staff that performs responsible, varied and complex technology, economic and/or market analyses on energy RD&D that provides ratepayer benefits; and consults with experts in the field.

The Energy Systems Research Office focuses on identifying and addressing emerging energy technology systems and natural gas-related research needs that are important to California’s energy future. The research addresses opportunities to enhance and improve the electrical grid, improving the safety and integrity of the natural gas infrastructure, and identifying environmental issues related to NG use, transport, and storage. The program funds research that: 1) stimulates California’s economic growth by attracting and developing businesses and creating and supporting jobs; 2) achieves long-term benefits to natural gas ratepayers through development of technologies and products that provide clean, diverse, and environmentally sound energy systems; and, 3) provides safe, reliable natural gas services by conducting research that focuses on the integrity and safety of the natural gas infrastructure.

Salary Reduction Notice

Salaries do not reflect the reduction of pay. Effective July 1, 2020, in response to the economic crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the California Department of Human Resources (CalHR) implemented the Personal Leave Program 2020 (PLP 2020). For Fiscal Years 2020-21 through 2021-22, employees will participate in the PLP 2020 and be credited (16) hours per month of PLP hours in return for reduction of pay equal to 9.23%. Part time employees shall be subject to the same conditions as stated above, on a pro-rated basis.
