Job Description and Duties

This position is pending finance approval. 

Effective July 1, 2020, in response to the economic crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Department of Human Resources implemented the Personal Leave Program 2020 (PLP 2020). State employees are subject to a 9.23% salary reduction in exchange for 16 hours per month of PLP 2020 leave credits. The salary information listed under “Position Details” does not reflect the reduction in pay.

The Department of Financial Protection and Innovation (DFPI) is recruiting for one permanent, full-time Attorney V position in the Enforcement Division. The position is to be located in the San Diego or Los Angeles office. This recruitment may be used to fill subsequent vacancies of these positions within the next 180 days.

Provides expert legal counsel to Executive Management on the most complex and controversial issues before the DFPI. This includes advice on the interpretation and analysis of law, court decisions, rules and regulations under the California Consumer Financial Protection Law, Debt Collector law, Corporate Securities Laws; Franchise Investment Law; Check Sellers, Bill Payers and Proraters Law; California Residential Mortgage Lending Act, California Finance Lenders Law; Escrow Law; Deferred Deposit Transaction Law; and California Commodities Law; Banking Law; Business and Industrial Development Corporations Law; California Credit Union Law; Industrial Loan Law and Money Transmission Act.

Working Conditions

The incumbent must be willing to exercise flexibility and agility as well as be willing to telework (remote work) from home as needed. Telework is subject to DFPI’s Telework Program Policy.

Department Information

The Department of Financial Protection and Innovation (DFPI) (formerly Department of Business Oversight) protects consumers and oversees financial service providers and products. The DFPI supervises the operations of state-licensed financial institutions, including banks, credit unions and money transmitters. Additionally, the DFPI licenses and regulates a variety of financial service providers, including securities brokers and dealers, investment advisers, payday lenders and other consumer finance lenders.
