Job Description and Duties

PARK INTERPRETIVE SPECIALIST (SEASONAL) – SAN DIEGO COAST DISTRICT / OLD TOWN SAN DIEGO STATE HISTORIC PARK

 

The reporting location is Old Town San Diego State Historic Park. This position will work under the direct supervision of the Acting Administrative Chief and under the lead of the Interpretation and Education Historic Sector’s State Park Interpreter II.

 

This Seasonal Interpretive Staff member will be responsible for assisting with the efficient operation of the Interpretation and Education Programs at Old Town San Diego State Historic Park, specifically at Iipay ~ Tipai Kumeyaay Mut Niihepok (Land of the First People Exhibit Area).  This includes but is not limited to interpreting and leading tours of the outdoor exhibit areas and assisting with planning, organizing, and conducting research for Iipay ~ Tipai Kumeyaay Mut Niihepok (Land of the First People Exhibit Area) interpretive programs in multiple mediums and delivery methods that activate the site in creative ways.

 

This position will be required to work weekends, and some holidays as the need arises.

 

Minimum Qualifications: Education equivalent to graduation from college (1) with major work in natural sciences or human history, or (2) with major work in education with specialization in natural science or human history. Full-time paid work performing duties similar to those listed under "TYPICAL TASKS" in CalHR’s Class Specification, may be substituted for a maximum of two years of the required education based on one season (three months) of experience being equal to one year of education.

 

Priority consideration will be given to any person receiving State public assistance under the CalWORKS program.  Applicants who receive State public assistance need to identify their status as a CalWORKS recipient in the comments area on the application.  Applicants must submit a verification of their CalWORKS eligibility status, which may include the most recent Notice of Action showing TANF eligibility or a copy of your last aid check stub.  If verification is not submitted with the application, the application will not be processed. (Applicants may obtain verification from the CalWORKS program).
