The State Water Resources Control Board’s (State Water Board) Division of Water Quality Sustainable Water Plans and Policies Section has an opening for a permanent full-time Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisor) to serve as the unit supervisor of the Santa Monica Bay Restoration Commission (SMBRC) Unit assigning, prioritizing, and supervising the work of the SMBRC as well as serving as the Chief Administrative Director of the SMBRC to support administrative functions of the Santa Monica Bay Restoration Commission (Commission). Due to COVID-19, the incumbent would be teleworking 100 percent of the time until staff transition back to the Los Angeles Regional Water Board offices when COVID-19 conditions improve. Normally, the position is located at 320 W 4th Street Suite 200, Los Angeles, CA 90013. The office in the vibrant downtown Los Angeles area next to Grand Central Market, Spring Street Park, metro stations and other public transportation.

Duties:

The incumbent works under the direction of the Sustainable Water Plans and Policies Environmental Program Manager and leads the SMBRC staff to provide administrative support to the Santa Monica Bay Restoration Commission (Commission), the state entity partner of the Santa Monica Bay National Estuary Program. The incumbent serves as the Chief Administrative Director to the Commission, supervises SMBRC staff, and collaborates with the Commission, US EPA, and The Bay Foundation to promote collaborative watershed-based partnerships in order to develop and implement a Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan that addresses a range of environmental problems facing the Santa Monica Bay watershed, while recognizing and balancing the needs of the local community. We are seeking a highly motivated individual with strong analytical, critical thinking, and written and verbal communication skills to develop and maintain collaborative relationships and effectively work with diverse groups of people.
