At the California Department of Justice – Office of the Attorney General, you will be part of a diverse group of over 5,000 dedicated professionals whose chief mission is to deliver fairness and equality under the law through a broad spectrum of programs and services. We are looking for qualified, committed paralegals to assist deputy attorneys general in a variety of employment-related matters in state and federal court as well as in administrative hearings. Applicants should be experienced with providing paralegal support in state and federal civil cases.

 

The Legal Analyst will be working in a year-round active trial unit. Under the supervision of an attorney, the Legal Analyst will be responsible for performing a variety of discovery-related tasks including organizing documents produced during discovery, summarizing and categorizing transcripts and records, preparing subpoenas, and preparing public records act requests, among other things. The Legal Analyst is also responsible for conducting investigations and research on our cases which may include social media research, legal research and other research through online tools such as Lexis and Westlaw. The Legal Analyst will be expected to work regularly with a variety of document management programs including ProLaw, Relativity, TextMap, and others. The Legal Analyst will be expected to work cooperatively with client IT representatives to gather electronic records and data and with the Department’s electronic discovery unit to process and organize that data. The Legal Analyst will help with trial and hearing preparation by drafting items such as jury instructions, exhibit lists, witness lists and other relevant documents. The Legal Analyst’s duties also includes assisting with subpoenaing witnesses, organizing and marking exhibits, preparing trial and hearing binders, and multimedia presentations. The Legal Analyst also may assist an attorney at trial including operating Trial Director, Trial Pad or similar trial presentation software at trial.


 

The Legal Analyst may be required to sit at a computer terminal while performing regular duties for approximately six to eight hours a day; may be required to travel to conduct witness interviews; and may be required to attend lengthy trials in other counties. The Legal Analyst must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
