Job Description and Duties

This position is Limited Term 24 months. It will not become permanent; it may be extended or be canceled at any time.


Northern California Lead :

Del Norte, Humboldt County, Mendocino, Lake, Napa, Sonoma, Trinity, Butte, Colusa, Glenn, Lassen, Modoc, Plumas, Shasta, Siskiyou, Tehama, Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, El Dorado, Nevada, Placer, Sacramento, Sierra, Sutter, Yolo, and Yuba

Frequent travel may be required.

The California Citizens Redistricting Commission (Commission) seeks four Field Staff positions including a Northern California Lead, Central California Lead and two Southern California Leads, to support the Commission’s public outreach and engagement activities. The Field Staff Lead candidates should demonstrate strong communication and organizing experience, combined with the background and knowledge to support the Commission’s redistricting mission. The applicant should be knowledgeable about the local and regional communities in the region they are applying for.  A strong candidate for this position will possess the skills to be a good collaborator and relationship builder for the Commission.

This is an exempt executive assignment position, non-tenured, full time, and is appointed by the Commission.  Employees of the Commission occupy non civil service positions serving at the pleasure of the Commission.


Under the direction of the Outreach Manager and Outreach Coordinator, the Field Staff Lead provides support for the Commission's public outreach and engagement activities and coordination with community stakeholders for their assigned region.  The incumbent will ensure regular communication with local and regional stakeholders and will provide meeting materials ahead of any meetings, serve as lead for team of field support staff and students, and provide meeting summaries to the Outreach Coordinator.

      Department Information

      The Commission is a 14-member body created by the passage of the Voters FIRST Act, in 2008.  It is charged with redrawing the California State Senate and Assembly, State Board of Equalization, and Congressional districts based on information gathered during the 2020 census. The Commission must draw the districts in conformity with strict, nonpartisan rules designed to create districts of reasonably equal population that will provide fair representation for all Californians. It is a further mandate that this process be conducted in an open and transparent manner, allowing for participation by the public. The commission is required to approve final maps by December 15, 2021, with an extension allowed due to the delay in the census data.

      • Possess a valid California Drivers' License (Class C)
