Job Description and Duties

California Energy Commission (CEC) seeks an Electric Generation System Specialist I in the Verification and Compliance Unit of the Renewable Energy Division’s Renewable Portfolio Office.

Under the direction of the Energy Resources Specialist III (Supervisory), the Electric Generation System Specialist I as a technical analyst performing responsible, varied, and complex technical and analytical work in the fields of electric generation system operations and regulation. The incumbent serves as the technical lead for the Renewables Portfolio Standard (RPS) Program in the Verification and Compliance Unit. The incumbent will provide electric generation system data planning, design, and evaluation in support of the RPS Verification and Compliance methodologies.

The incumbent acts as a technical lead performing complex technical analysis and verification of long-term procurement contracts, renewable energy generation, and multi-fuel and biomethane generation. Incumbent will engage utilities, facilities, and other stakeholders and collaborate with other state agencies including the California Independent System Operator, the California Public Utilities Commission, and the California Air Resources Board. This position requires an understanding of a broad range of analytic, policy, technical, and functional RPS program issues.

Working Conditions

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the majority of the duties will be performed in a telework environment, but may return to an office environment in the future. Regular and consistent attendance is essential to the successful performance in this position. Occasional travel may be required.

Salary Reduction Notice

Salaries do not reflect the reduction of pay. Effective July 1, 2020, in response to the economic crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the California Department of Human Resources (CalHR) implemented the Personal Leave Program 2020 (PLP 2020). For Fiscal Years 2020-21, employees will participate in the PLP 2020 and be credited (16) hours per month of PLP hours in return for reduction of pay equal to 9.23%. Part time employees shall be subject to the same conditions as stated above, on a pro-rated basis.

Statement of Qualifications
