The mission of the Energy Assessments Division (EAD) is to conduct assessments of California’s electricity, natural gas, petroleum, and transportation systems and trends and to provide that information to the state’s decision makers and the public. This information assists these and other stakeholders to develop energy policies that balance the need for adequate resources with economic, public health, safety, and environmental goals. The EAD consists of a multi-disciplinary staff of economists, engineers, scientists, responsible for developing methodologies, models, and data for analyzing energy supply and demand. The division’s emphasis is on building staff capabilities in the latest modeling and analytical techniques to assess and forecast California’s energy needs

Under the general direction of the Energy Resources Specialist III (Supervisory), the Energy Commission Specialist III (ECS III) performs a variety of sensitive and highly complex technical and analytical tasks and provides expert guidance and technical direction related to economic and demographic analysis, the results of which are fundamental to and used in the preparation of California's Energy Demand Forecast (CEDF). The ECS III also may provide support or advice regarding related policy matters impacting the CEDF when needed.

The incumbent is the highest level specialist who serves as the California Energy Commission’s (CEC) top subject matter expert, resource, and technical lead regarding California's economics and demographics. The ECS III conducts research and analyzes demographic and economic data and trends in the state and provides expert consultative services to CEC management and technical staff regarding California’s economy, demographics, and their impacts on energy demand, supply, and efficiency. The incumbent’s analyses and results are used in the CEC’s modeling of California’s energy sectors, including residential, floor space, commercial, agriculture, transportation, and are also incorporated into the overall CEDF.
