Job Description and Duties

The incumbent works under the administrative direction of the Exposure Assessment Section Chief. The Research Scientist IV (RS IV) serves as a technical lead for the California Environmental Contaminants Biomonitoring Program (also known as Biomonitoring California) and as a technical advisor for the Environmental Health Investigations Branch (EHIB).  Responsibilities include designing biomonitoring surveillance, developing exposure assessment questionnaires, and conducting statistical analysis related to determination of population estimates and the understanding exposure trends. The RS IV will also serve as a resource for other EHIB programs, including Tracking California, providing statistical and epidemiological advisement to other sections and providing branch-level scientific review of reports, papers, and other products. Up to 10% in-state travel as needed.

Department Information

The Environmental Health Investigations Branch protects the health of all Californians by identifying environmental hazards, partnering with communities to build capacity and promoting health environments.  The Exposure Assessment Section (EAS) works to optimize the health of the people in California by studying chemical exposure across eh population, determining the extent and source of exposure and conducting outreach and education on how to minimize exposure.
