Job Description and Duties

If you are an innovative thinker with strong leadership and analytical skills, then we are looking for you! The California Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Human Resources is looking for an enthusiastic and driven individual to lead our Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) & Special Leaves Unit. This Unit is the sole internal resource assigned to support the DOJ to ensure the consistent and accurate administration of FMLA and all other benefits and entitlements associated with medical leaves of absence.

 

The Staff Services Manager I will be directly responsible for providing consultation, guidance, and functional supervision to a team of analysts and specialists in the FMLA Unit. The candidate will ensure their team has the necessary training and resources to meet operational needs and to provide timely and high quality customer service. To ensure confidentiality and compliance with laws, policies, and labor contracts, the SSM I will advise DOJ managers and supervisors on the varied and complex issues regarding FMLA, California Family Rights Act (CFRA), and Pregnancy Disability Leave (PDL). In addition, the candidate will research, analyze and make recommendations on departmental policies, procedures, and training in the area of FMLA/CFRA/PDL; work with supervisors on effective resolution of grievances and complaints as they relate to FMLA/CFRA/PDL; and will also assist with a variety of special studies and administrative projects for departmental management. The SSM I will also provide guidance and support over the payroll functions associated with non-industrial wage replacement benefits such as State Disability Insurance and Non-Industrial Disability Insurance in addition to Worker’s Compensation payroll.
