Job Description and Duties

Under the general direction of the Staff Services Manager II (SSM II), the Staff Services Manager I (Supervisor) directly supervises 5 staff and assists the SSM II in advancing the vision of the Branch and the California Workforce Development Board (CWDB).

The SSM I assigns, directs and monitors all communications-related activities and oversees the CWDB's Communications Analysts and Student Assistants. The SSM I also manages the creation and evolution of the CWDB strategic communications outreach plan, which provides internal and external communications for the CWDB and its grants and initiatives. In this capacity, the incumbent guides the team by providing employee and project oversight, utilizing high-level organizational skills to ensure the daily functions of the CWDB Administrative branch are met.

Department Information

The California Workforce Development Board (CWDB) is the Governor's agent for the development, oversight, and continuous improvement of California's workforce investment system and the alignment of the education and workforce investment systems. The CWDB and its staff provide active ongoing policy analysis, technical assistance, and program evaluation to inform and shape state policy on the design of state workforce policies and their coordination with other relevant programs, including education and human service programs.
The CWDB, in consultation with Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) state plan partners, drafts the State Plan and serves as the broker, convener, facilitator, and matchmaker to bring the disparate elements of the state's workforce, education, human services, and economic development programs into alignment through coordinated partnership. The CWDB sets policy for WIOA Title I programs, including statewide policy pertaining to Local Board responsibilities, as well as policy directly relevant to the design and operations of the One-Stop system.
