Job Description and Duties

The Department of Financial Protection and Innovation is recruiting for one (1) Permanent, Full-time Senior Financial Institutions Examiner position within the Student Loan Services Unit. This position is to be located in the Sacramento, San Francisco, Los Angeles, or San Diego offices. This recruitment may be used to fill subsequent vacancies of these positions within the next 180 days.

Under the general direction of the Financial Institutions Manager of the Student Loan Services Unit, the Senior Financial Institutions Examiner (SFIE) is responsible for the examination of Student Loan Servicers nationwide.  The SFIE is the advanced journey level or expert level of the series and will be responsible for examination of all Student Loan Servicers up to, and including, the most complex licensees and situations. The SFIE conducts examinations of the departments, divisions, units, or affiliates of a licensee including the largest and most complex operations. Prepares examination reports that accurately communicate the condition of the licensee and any corrective actions required. Evaluates and determines compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Working Conditions

The incumbent must be willing to exercise flexibility and agility as well as be willing to telework (remote work) from home as needed. Telework is subject to DFPI’s Telework Program Policy.

Sacramento Location
: The Sacramento office is located in north Natomas and offers FREE PARKING, is easily accessible from INTERSTATES 5 and 80, and is also close to various dining and shopping choices in the Natomas area. 

San Francisco Location: The San Francisco office is located in the heart of the financial district within walking distance to BART and restaurants.

Los Angeles Location: The Los Angeles office is located in the heart of the downtown financial district within walking distance to restaurants, transit, multiple parking options.
