Job Description and Duties

Under the general direction of the SB 743 Program Manager, a Supervising Transportation Planner, in the Caltrans Sustainability Program, situated in the Director's office. This position will help advance the department's sustainability and equity goals, with a focus on reducing vehicle-miles traveled (VMT). The incumbent should have training in or exposure to strategies that reduce the length and/or number or car trips on the State Highway System, including active transportation, pricing, transportation demand management, transit, and land use. Planning, engineering, and/or public policy training or experience is required. Technical planning skills and/or a solid knowledge of the project development process are desirable.

Working Conditions

This Position is located in Sacramento.

This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans’s current telework policy. The selected candidate may be required to travel to the headquartered location. All expenses to travel to the headquartered location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.

New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.

STATEMENT OF QUALIFICATIONS INSTRUCTIONS:

All interested candidates must submit a Statement of Qualifications (SOQ). SOQ must be typed and no more than two pages in length, single spaced with 12 pt. font. Each response must be numbered to correspond to the applicable question in the SOQ.

  1. Demonstrate your knowledge of various strategies, whether highway concepts and design, active transportation, pricing, travel demand management, land use, and/or transit, that may limit or reduce vehicle miles traveled.
  2. Demonstrate your analytical and interpersonal communication skills, necessary to effectively give comments on projects and facilitate project meetings, work with interdisciplinary teams, and address a variety of internal and external audiences. 

Candidates that believe they meet the Minimum qualifications based on a pattern of education from the classification description (specifications) must provide a copy of your degree/transcripts and/or license along with your application (STD. 678) to be considered for this position. If selected for the position in which education is required to meet the minimum qualifications, official sealed transcripts will be required prior to appointment.
