Job Description and Duties

Do you have interest in and experience developing and implementing freshwater fisheries restoration projects on a watershed-scale? Do you have an objective understanding of the benefits and impacts of both traditional and nature-based restoration solutions on California's native fish populations?

The Fisheries Branch's Heritage and Wild Trout Program is seeking a highly motivated individual to represent Fisheries Branch in the Department's Beaver Unit and assist in the development of policy and methods regarding nature-based restoration solutions involving beavers and Beaver Dam Analogs. The unit's mission is to provide technical and policy expertise on fisheries conservation and management statewide.This is a highly visible, high priority project, and the incumbent will be the primary liaison and fisheries restoration expert on the statewide Beaver working group run by Wildlife Branch.

In order to be eligible for this position, you must either be transfer eligible or take and pass the following exam: Senior Environmental Scientist (Specialist)

Working Conditions

This position is primarily office based and will require the use of a computer for several hours each day. However, this position may also require the ability travel throughout the the state to participate in inter/intra agency working groups to discuss, develop, and implement nature-based restoration activities involving the reintroduction of beaver and installation of Beaver Dam Analgous. Field-based activities may be remote and physically demanding, and may require an ability to lift 40+ pounds and use of a 4-wheel drive vehicle.
