About the California Workforce Development Board (CWDB)

The CWDB is recognized nationally as a progressive and experimental state workforce department, charting a path to a High Road economy and approach to workforce development grounded in the principles of social equity, environmental sustainability, and resilience and quality jobs. Over the past decade, the CWDB's budget, programs, and staff have grown exponentially using federal and state workforce funding to pilot new sector-based workforce initiatives and develop policy solutions that address the quality and accessibility of jobs in addition to training. The CWDB is a stand alone state agency, is not part of the Employment Development Department, and is under the larger umbrella of the California Labor and Workforce Development Agency. If you are motivated to be part of a small but mighty department doing the work described above, you may be a great fit for one of our open positions.

Job Description and Duties
Under the administrative direction of the Deputy Director of the Policy, Research, and Legislation Branch, the Staff Services Manager II (SSM II) will oversee the Research and Evaluation unit which provides research and evaluation, and assesses the grants and programs of the California Workforce Development Board (CWDB).  The SSM II acts as a highly skilled resource lead for all CWDB workforce development research, analysis and evaluation, and is responsible for overseeing a wide range of research and evaluation studies conducted both by the CWDB research staff as well as third-party entities contracted by the CWDB to meet legislative mandates and CWDB directives. The SSM II will work with the CWDB Executive Team and establish an internal continuous improvement process for the CWDB research and evaluation as applied, but not limited, to all the CWDB High Road grants and programs.

The SSM II must be knowledgeable in directing research and evaluation studies required for gauging the success of workforce development programs, and experienced in guiding discussions on workforce program metrics, outlined in, but not limited to, federal and state policy and statute. The SSM II will be required to attend meetings or conferences as a representative of the CWDB, and serve as the point person for all matters related to CWDB research and evaluation.
