Job Description and Duties

The College Corps Program Manager for Community Partnerships will be a key leader on the Programs team supporting the implementation of this innovative statewide service initiative. The primary role is to support outreach and training to improve the quality of College Corps community service placements statewide. This will include identifying strong community partner organizations that could be ‘anchor’ College Corps host sites for multiple partner campuses across the state. The College Corps Manager for Community Partnerships will need to be a big picture thinker with the organizational and inter-personal skills needed to cultivate strong external partnerships.

Working Conditions

This is a statewide recruitment. The incumbent will be headquartered in the region nearest to the residence of the selected candidate. We have regional offices in Sacramento, Oakland, Fresno, Los Angeles, North State/Tahoe, and San Diego.

    California Volunteers, Office of the Governor is the state office tasked with engaging Californians in service, volunteering and civic action to tackle our state’s most pressing challenges while lifting up all communities. Led by the state’s Chief Service Officer, Josh Fryday, California Volunteers is supported by a bipartisan 25-member Commission and a team of experts driven by a mission to mobilize all Californians to volunteer and serve in their communities.



    The Governor’s California Comeback Plan included $146 million for the #CaliforniansForAll College Corps to be launched in partnership with colleges and universities. This new service opportunity will engage more than 6,000 college students across the state in solving problems in their communities, while learning key skills that will advance their academic and career success. College Corps Fellows will support and learn from local organizations working in three priority areas: K-12 Education, Climate Action and Food Insecurity. To help reduce student debt and ensure the opportunity is accessible to all, Fellows will receive a financial benefit of $10,000, including a living allowance and education award.

    Desirable Qualifications

    In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
    • Bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years of experience managing government procurement and/or contracts.
    • Experience working with or within higher education institutions.
    • Strong written and verbal communications skills. 
    • Experience with budget tracking and financial modeling.
    • Capacity to manage multiple projects at one time, including those that are high-profile and time sensitive. 
    • Diplomatic and collaborative, with a high degree of professionalism and excellent judgment.
    • Self-directed, with a can-do attitude and the ability to adapt as needed in a fast-paced work environment.
    • Extremely organized and detail oriented.
    • Power user of Microsoft Office suite, Excel in particular.
    • A track record of developing strong and trusting relationships with external partners.
    • Ability to travel occasionally and work an irregular and sometimes demanding schedule.
