Job Description and Duties

Under general direction of the Information Technology  Manager I (ITM I) and with coordination with the Chief Information Officer (CIO), the Information Technology Specialist II (ITS II) functions as the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) for the Civil Rights Department (CRD). The incumbent is responsible for establishing and maintaining all departmental information security policies and plans and ensuring that they align with all Federal and State security regulations. Serves as a member of the CRD Infrastructure and Operations team to ensure that security policy is appropriately implemented in all Information Technology systems and assets.


    This position is eligible for remote-work within California, based on departmental guidelines and operational need. Occasional in-office presence may be required at one of the 6 California offices located in Elk Grove, Oakland, Fresno, Bakersfield, Los Angeles, or Riverside.

      Department Information

      The Civil Rights Department (CRD or Department) is the civil rights enforcement agency for the State of California.  CRD’s mission is to protect all people in California from employment, housing and public accommodation discrimination, human trafficking, and hate violence.

       

      The CRD is the largest state civil rights enforcement agency in the country. It enforces the California Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA), Unruh Civil Rights Act, Disabled Persons Act, Ralph Civil Rights Act, and the California Trafficking Victims Protection Act. The Department has jurisdiction over both private and public entities operating within the State of California, including corporate entities, private sector companies that contract with the State of California, and all State departments and local governments. 

      The CRD receives, investigates conciliates, and initiates individual and systemic discrimination complaints in its five offices throughout California. CRD litigates individual, class, group and systemic cases in all California jurisdictions, including state and federal courts. It leads education and outreach efforts to stakeholders and the public, and has an active regulatory and legislative program.

      As operationally allowed, telework is available for employees who can perform their essential functions remotely. The selected candidate will be assigned and may be required to travel to a CRD designated home office for business purposes.

      Candidates who reside outside of the State of California may be admitted to the job interview. However, upon job offer, candidates must provide proof of residence in California prior to their appointment becoming effective, or the offer may be rescinded.

      • Experience in managing and configuring security solutions such as Nessus Professional software and PEN testing applications.
      • Experience with SIEM solutions such as Splunk ES, Microsoft Sentinel, etc.
      • Experience in managing and supporting Endpoint Protection platforms, such as Defender.
