Job Description and Duties

The Fuels and Transportation Division (FTD) is seeking three Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Specialists to join its staff and work on zero-emission vehicle infrastructure planning and deployment. The specialists will help administer the Clean Transportation Program, which is investing more than $1 billion to accelerate the deployment of zero-emission transportation infrastructure, in-state manufacturing, and workforce training and development. Both specialists will serve in the Electric Vehicle Infrastructure and Analysis Branch under two different units: The Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Innovation Unit and the Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Deployment Unit.  


The Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Innovation Unit designs and implements grant funding solicitations to accelerate the transition to zero-emission vehicles. With an emphasis on infrastructure deployment, the unit creates and implements FTD’s most innovative funding opportunities to advance solutions to challenges in EV charging and infrastructure deployment for light-duty vehicles (passenger vehicles and light trucks). Within this unit, the EV Charging Infrastructure Deployment Specialist will develop and implement innovative grant funding solicitations; oversee and manage project implementation by grant recipients; evaluate and recommend electric vehicle infrastructure policies and strategies; collaborate within the CEC and with outside agencies and stakeholders.


The Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Deployment Unit emphasizes large-scale and rapid deployment of infrastructure. It works with third-party implementers on rebate projects that play a key role in advancing standards, technology requirements and expediting the state’s ZEV and infrastructure transition. Within this unit, the EV Charging Infrastructure Deployment Specialist will act as the Energy Commission’s project manager for one or more large block grants to accelerate deployment of EV charging infrastructure and provide oversight over third-party implemneters. This entails working closely with third-party block grant implementers, evaluating policy design and implementation proposals, participating in regular strategy and coordination calls; and recommending action to Energy Commission management. The EV Charging Infrastructure Specialist will also manage the block grant and other funding agreements, including invoices, amendments, and deliverables; work as part of a team to develop and implement grant funding opportunities; oversee and manage project implementation; evaluate and recommend potential updates to electric vehicle infrastructure policies and strategies; and collaborate within the CEC and with outside agencies and stakeholders.

Working Conditions

The CEC supports a hybrid workplace model with office-based and remote-centered workers. Limited in-person attendance and occasional travel may be required based on the needs of the division. Regular and consistent attendance is essential to successful performance. This position is remote-centered, which means the incumbent works 50 percent or more of their time from an alternate work location.
