Job Description and Duties

Under the administrative direction of Vice Chair Gunda, the Senior Advisor will counsel, coordinate, review and recommend appropriate action to the Vice Chair on decisions before the California Energy Commission (CEC). The Senior Advisor consults with the Vice Chair on activities, policies, and programs of the Commission; represents the Vice Chair at meetings, public functions and in engagement with external stakeholders; and performs other related duties as required. The Senior Advisor works closely with other Commissioner Offices as well as the Executive Director's Office. Vice Chair Gunda is the lead Commissioner for the Energy Assessments Division (EAD) and the Reliability, Renewable Energy & Decarbonization Incentives (RREDI) Division, and provides leadership on the topics of: energy system decarbonization, transitions, and reliability; energy demand and supply forecasting; transmission planning; regional coordination; petroleum industry oversight; and data initiatives. The Senior Advisor is tasked with supporting the Vice Chair with these divisions and topics and, overall, on advising on how to successfully navigate tradeoffs to achieving equitable and affordable decarbonization and reliability of the state’s energy systems and infrastructure, for electricity as well as liquid and gaseous fuels.

Working Conditions

The California Energy Commission offers a hybrid workplace model that is designed to support a distributed workforce of both office-based and remote-centric workers that relies on a high level of telework. Limited-in person attendance and occasional travel may be required based on the needs of the division. Regular and consistent attendance - whether office-based or remote-centric - is essential to the successful performance in this position. This position is remote centered which means the incumbent works 50 percent or more of their time monthly from an alternate work location (i.e., teleworking).
