Job Description and Duties


The Position is headquartered in Sacramento.

This position will run Until Filled with the following cut off dates: 1st and 15th of each month.


This position will report directly to the California Department of Aging's (CDA) Communication Manager but will work closely with the Creative Services Manager. Under close supervision of the Communication Manager in collaboration with the Creative Services Manager, the incumbent provides design and technical solutions for CDA internet and social media presence, as well as print and digital media products. The tasks require the ability to reason logically, write effectively, and analyze information accurately.

New to state candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of the alternate salary range when applicable. Placement to alternate range may be based on education or experience identified in your state application.

This non-tenured intermittent position will be limited to working up to 1,500 hours in a 12-consecutive month period.

Working Conditions

The physical work location of the position is designated at the department's headquarters location, a three-story building and standard office modular workspace located in Natomas. The duties of the position require sitting for long periods of time while using a personal computer, reviewing documents, and attending meetings whether they are digital (i.e., Zoom, WebEx, MS Teams, etc.) or in person.

Department Information

The California Department of Aging (CDA) administers programs that serve older adults, adults with disabilities, family caregivers, and residents in long-term care facilities throughout the State. The Department administers funds allocated under the federal Older Americans Act, the Older Californians Act, and through the Medi-Cal program.

 

Recognizing that California’s over-65 population is projected to grow to 8.6 million by 2030, Governor Gavin Newsom issued Executive Order N-14-19 calling for the creation of a Master Plan for Aging to be developed by December - 2020. The Master Plan will serve as a blueprint that can be used by state government, local communities, private organizations, and philanthropy to build environments that promote healthy aging. CDA will play an integral part in the development and implementation of the Master Plan.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
• Experience with editing videos and uploading and maintenance of videos on YouTube.
• Experience with video editing software such as Adobe Premiere.
• Experience with Photoshop or similar photo editing software.
• Experience with InDesign or other graphics software.
• Production assistant experience – both studio and field-based.
• Video Camera operation experience – both studio and field-based.
• Experience with video Graphics development – using Adobe Photoshop and After Effects
• Experience with event video documentation (both single-camera and multi-camera).
• Ability work independently to complete projects in a timely manner.
• Team player with strong time management and a willingness to learn new skills and ideas.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, a strong work ethic, and enthusiasm.
