Job Description and Duties

If you enjoy taking part in legal administrative and clerical support under unique and complex circumstances and can type at a speed of 45 words per minute, the Senior Legal Typist (SLT) position with the Division of Workers' Compensation (DWC) may be for you. DWC within the Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) monitors the administration of workers' compensation claims and provides services to assist in resolving disputes with claims for workers' compensation benefits. DWC is looking for an effective communicator willing to prepare correspondence independently. The SLT will review and process legal documents such as case openings, pleadings, and other correspondence. The SLT will also assist parties and litigants with inquiries and updates in person, by telephone, or email. Additionally, the SLT will transcribe dictation from a dictating machine for reports, decisions, or orders. This position has flexibility to telework and is expected to report to the office 3 days a week.

Working Conditions

This position is located at: 
320 W. 4th Street, 9th floor
Los Angeles, CA 90013-1954

The office is located in the Junipero Serra Building across the street from a Metro station and a block away from Grand Central Market and other sites of interest within the Arts District of downtown Los Angeles. Telework available two (2) days per week. The SLT works in a smoke-free DWC Office under LED lighting, controlled temperature, quiet to moderate noise levels; equipped with cubicles, computer, and other office equipment.

Special Requirements

Proficient with Microsoft Office products including, Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point. Typing Certificate of 45 words per minute, ability to read and write English at a level required for successful job performance, establish and maintain effective working relationships, communicate effectively, follow directions, analyze situations and take effective action using good judgment in decision making, manage time and resources effectively and be responsive to management needs.
