A Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) must be submitted with your application. The SOQ is a narrative description of how your training, experience, and education qualifies you for the position. The SOQ must be no more than two pages in length. Writing that exceeds this page limit will not be scored.
The SOQ should provide specific details and examples that clearly demonstrate your qualifications. SOQs will be evaluated based on the content and writing ability, using standardized rating criteria. Competitive applicants will be invited to attend an interview. Applicants who do not submit a completed SOQ will not be considered. All information in the statement is subject to verification.
In your SOQ, please describe your experience or education with the following matters:
1. Substantive and procedural criminal law in California or other jurisdictions (please specify the jurisdictions).
2. Policy-making, statute drafting, and the legislative process (particularly in California).
3. Researching and analyzing complex legal or policy matters.
4. Presenting complex legal or policy information orally.
5. Presenting complex legal or policy information in writing.
6. Managing and leading complex projects.
7. Working in a position that requires integrity, tact, and good judgment.
If you are using education to meet the minimum qualifications for this position, you must submit a copy of the relevant transcript. An unofficial transcript may be submitted as part of the application package, but an official transcript will be required prior to appointment.
