Professional Certification: RID, BEI, or NAD certification.
Experience: At least three years of professional interpreting in a variety of settings.
Ethics & Confidentiality: Clear understanding and practice of the Code of Professional Conduct, with a demonstrated commitment to confidentiality.
Reliability: Strong record of attendance, punctuality, and dependability.
Interpersonal and Composure Skills: Ability to work effectively with diverse individuals and groups, maintaining a professional and approachable presence. Ability to remain professional and effective in high-stress or sensitive situations.
Interpreting Skills: Proficiency in both consecutive and simultaneous interpreting, with the ability to adjust to different registers and communication needs.
Specialized Knowledge: Familiarity with technical, academic, legal, or other specialized terminology relevant to the setting.
Cultural Competence: Knowledge of Deaf culture and experience interacting respectfully with Deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing communities.
Team Collaboration: Experience working as part of a team of interpreters.
Professional Growth: Ongoing engagement in professional development, such as workshops, CEUs, or involvement in professional organizations.
Technology Skills: Comfort with remote interpreting platforms and related technology.
