Job Description and Duties

Under the direct supervision of a Program Manager I, the Senior Emergency Services Coordinator (SESC) serves as the subject matter expert for the Department's Disaster Response Program, Mass Care and Shelter, California Emergency Support Function (CA-ESF 6), and the Emergency Repatriation Program mandated by the Department's Administrative Orders set forth in the State Emergency Plan. During disasters, this position serves within the Incident Command System (ICS) and may be assigned to a field assignment, Department Operations Center (DOC), State Operations Center (SOC), Regional Emergency Operations Center (REOC), Federal/State Joint Field Office (JFO), Local Assistance Center (LAC), etc. This position maintains training and education required by the Field Operations Bureau, Disaster Services Branch, and the Department.

Working Conditions

This position is eligible for hybrid work in accordance with the Governor’s Executive Order N-22-25 and at the sole discretion of the Department of Social Services under California Government Code Section 14200. All telework schedules are subject to change and may be re-evaluated at any time.  The incumbent will be expected to report for in office work and attend work related in-person events as deemed operationally necessary. Telework does not change the terms and conditions of employment, the essential functions of job duties, or required compliance with the CDSS policies. Headquarter location may be designated on the selected candidate's primary residence location, and/or the closest CDSS location in accordance with operational need and available space. The successful candidate must reside in California upon appointment.

 

Please note: Regular commute is not compensable.

The Emergency Services Coordinator is subject to 24-hour on call in the event of an emergency and must be able to respond to a disaster assignment on short notice. 
Willingness to travel and participate in disaster related work. Willingness to monitor a mobile phone and respond to electronic mail and phone calls 24/7, including holidays and in addition may be required to travel and work mandatory overtime in a disaster situation. This service may require irregular working hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the duty statement. The ability to perform in extremely stressful situations with tact and professionalism, good organizational skills, and the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing are critical.
