Statement of Qualifications (SOQ)
A Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) is required and must be submitted with your application. The SOQ serves as a documentation of each candidate’s ability to present information clearly and concisely in writing.
When completing the SOQ, you must title the page “Statement of Qualifications” and list the question, providing your answer below. When completing the SOQ please explain your answers thoroughly, including all relevant experience, education and training. The SOQ must be typed in 12-point Arial font and be no more than 2 pages in length with correct grammar use, punctuation and spelling. Your SOQ must address the following:
1. Describe your experience supervising or leading an Information Technology (IT) team.
2. Describe a time when you led a project with staff from different teams who leaned on each other to complete a project. How did you ensure they communicated successfully?
Please attach your SOQ to your application. Applications received without the SOQ or that do not follow these instructions will not be considered.
Note: Resumes, letters, and other materials will not be evaluated or considered as responses to the Statement of Qualifications.
Employment Application (STD. 678) Instructions:
All relevant work experience, skill sets, education, and professional qualifications must be listed directly on the Employment Application (STD. 678). Resumes, cover letters, and/or other attachments will not be accepted in lieu of a completed STD. 678. To ensure your experience is considered:
• Include specific “to” and “from” dates (MM/DD/YY) and indicate hours worked per week for all employment listed. If various hours per week, please average.
• Experience may not be evaluated if “see resume” or “see attached” is written in the duties performed section.
• If you are applying for more than one recruitment, a separate STD. 678 is required for each recruitment for which you would like to be considered.
Important Notes Regarding Supporting Documents:
• If using education to meet minimum qualifications, include unofficial transcripts for verification. Foreign transcripts must include verification of U.S. equivalency found here.
• Supporting documents should be submitted in PDF format.
• Do not include any confidential information (e.g., Social Security Number, birth date, student ID number, driver’s license number unless required, marital status, age, LEAP status, or examination results) on any submitted documents. Confidential information on the first page of applications submitted electronically online will automatically be redacted upon submission.
Basis of Eligibility:
• For mailed or hand-delivered applications, you must include the Job Control (JC) number and specify your basis of eligibility (e.g., List Eligibility, Lateral Transfer, Reinstatement, Training and Development) in the “Examinations or Job Title” section of the STD. 678.
• For electronic submissions, do not include the basis of eligibility elsewhere in your application or attachments, as it may be considered confidential.
Possession of minimum qualifications will be verified prior to interview or appointment. Applicants who do not meet minimum qualifications may be withheld from the eligibility list, rendering them inactive and ineligible to be hired in the classification, and will be notified accordingly. Candidates may appeal a withholding decision to the State Personnel Board.
This recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies in accordance with 2 CCR §249.3.
