Job Description and Duties

UPDATE: The Final Filing Date has been extended until 7/17/2026

Under the direct supervision of the Supervisor of Residence Program, the Office Technician (Typing) will be responsible for establishing clerical procedures and independently performing the more difficult clerical duties with Residential Services. This position provides clerical services in support of this function.

Working Conditions

This position requires long periods of time sitting in front of a computer workstation; repetitive use of hands, forearms, and fingers to operate computers, mouse, dual computer monitors, printers, and copiers. Work in a climate-controlled office under artificial lighting. This position may be kneeling, squatting, bending, reaching overhead/above shoulder level, sitting.

This position requires the following pre-employment clearance:

  • Tuberculosis (TB) Risk Assessment and or Test
  • Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) and Department of Justice (DOJ) Fingerprint Clearance
Upon acceptance of an official, written, formal offer, you will be given more information regarding the required pre-employment clearance documentation.

** This position has a Pay Differential 515 - State Special Schools Recruitment and Retention of 10% of the base salary. The pay differential is not included in the salary listed below. **

** Effective July 1, 2025, in accordance with the applicable Memorandum of Understanding, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) was implemented. PLP 2025 requires each full-time employee in Bargaining Unit 4, and related Excluded, Exempt and Statutory Exempt employees, will have their base salary reduced by 3 percent and will receive 5 hours of PLP 2025 leave credits monthly through June 2027. The pay reduction is not included in the salary listed below. **

Department Information

The California School for the Blind provides intensive, disability-specific educational services to students who have primary learning needs related to their visual impairment. The school serves as a statewide resource to provide expertise to Local Education Agencies (LEAs) and families in evidenced-based assessment, specialized curriculum, cutting-edge research and technology, and innovative models of instruction that prepare students for adult life. The California School for the Blind is under the State Special Schools and Services Division.
