Job Description and Duties

Join us in making a difference in the lives of children and families impacted by commercial sexual exploitation!

The Safety and Early Intervention Bureau's Child Trafficking Research and Policy Unit (CTRPU) provides support to county child welfare and probation departments to serve victims of/at risk of child labor trafficking (CLT) and commercial sexual exploitation, (CSE) in conjunction with other child welfare sub-populations with complex needs. Through ongoing analysis and implementation of federal and state statute, legislative proposals and regulations, the CTRPU incorporates the behaviors outlined in California’s Integrated Core Practice Model, to create, support and implement trauma informed programs that deliver innovative, timely and effective services. Current focuses of the Unit include developing harm reduction strategies providers can use while engaging youth who have experienced CSE, analyzing outcomes relative to both system interventions and youth experiences, facilitating a statewide CLT work group and developing best practice guidance, among others.

Working Conditions

This work location is very convenient!  The CDSS is located two blocks from the light rail and public transportation: within walking distance to the State Capitol, parks, restaurants, farmer’s markets and the Golden 1 Arena. Our building has easy access to I-5, Highway 50, and Highway 80.

  

This position is eligible for hybrid work in accordance with the Governor’s Executive Order N-22-25 and at the sole discretion of the Department of Social Services under California Government Code Section 14200. All telework schedules are subject to change and may be re-evaluated at any time.  The incumbent will be expected to report for in office work and attend work related in-person events as deemed operationally necessary. Telework does not change the terms and conditions of employment, the essential functions of job duties, or required compliance with the CDSS policies.  The successful candidate must reside in California upon appointment.

 

Please note: Regular commute is not compensable.

The Safety and Early Intervention Bureau (SEIB) has responsibility for supporting county child welfare agencies, probation departments, and Indian Tribes to deliver early intervention strategies including the Family First Prevention Services Program, Emergency Response (ER) and Family Maintenance (FM) services. Early Intervention services are intended to reduce and prevent entries/re-entries into the foster care system. The SEIB also administers the Commercially Sexually Exploited Children (CSEC) Program and provides support to county child welfare and probation departments to serve victims of/at risk of child labor trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation, in conjunction with other child welfare sub-populations with complex needs. Through analysis and implementation of federal and state statutes, legislative proposals and regulations, the SEIB incorporates California’s Integrated Core Practice Model and a Harm Reduction philosophy to create, support and implement trauma informed programs that deliver innovative, timely and effective services. The SEIB is committed to ensuring equity in service delivery, reducing bias in practice and reducing the over-representation of families of color in the child welfare system.
