STATE PARK SUPERINTENDENT II – MONTEREY DISTRICT / MONTEREY DISTRICT OFFICE
The reporting location for this position is Monterey District Office in Monterey, CA. This position will work under the direction of the State Park Superintendent III.
The Monterey District is seeking a dynamic and experienced North Operations State Park Superintendent II to provide leadership, oversight, and strategic direction for public safety, emergency services, and park operations throughout the northern region of Monterey District. Working closely with the Chief Ranger State Park Superintendent III, this position serves as a key member of the district leadership team and is responsible for overseeing law enforcement, aquatic operations, emergency management, public safety programs, and the day-to-day management of the new Fort Ord Dunes State Park Campground. The State Park Superintendent II serves as a Watch Commander, Public Information Officer, and incident management leader during emergencies, major law enforcement incidents, search and rescue operations, natural disasters, and special events, while maintaining strong partnerships with allied agencies, elected officials, community stakeholders, and cooperating associations.
The North Operations State Park Superintendent II provides direct supervision and support for public safety personnel, develops emergency plans, oversees staffing and scheduling, manages employee leave and overtime programs, and ensures operational readiness across a diverse and complex service area. The position coordinates multi-agency responses to public safety challenges, including homeless encampment management, emergency call-outs, and large-scale special events, while developing Incident Action Plans and ensuring effective command and control during critical incidents. This role is essential to maintaining visitor and employee safety, protecting natural and cultural resources, supporting operational continuity, and delivering high-quality public service throughout Monterey District’s northern operations.
This position is designated as not telework eligible.
