Job Description and Duties

Uder general supervision of the Adminstrator, the Consultant performs the following:

Accreditation Unit Work – Responsible for assistance in the implementation of the accreditation system for institutions of higher education and local education agencies offering educator preparation programs. This includes document review processes, the site visit process, including presentation to the Committee on Accreditation, and/or other accreditation–related responsibilities as assigned.

Department Information

The California Commission on Teacher Credentialing is an agency in the Executive Branch of California State Government. It was created in 1970 by the Ryan Act and is the oldest of the autonomous state standards boards in the nation. The major purpose of the agency is to serve as a state standards board for educator preparation for the public schools of California, the licensing and credentialing of professional educators in the State, the enforcement of professional practices of educators, and the discipline of credential holders in the State of California.


The Commission on Teacher Credentialing headquarters office is located in Sacramento; however, an alternate work location outside of Sacramento will be considered.

Effective July 1, 2025, the California Department of Human Resources (CalHR) implemented the temporary Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025).  PLP 2025 directs that each employee receive a temporary reduction in pay in exchange for PLP 2025 leave credits.  The temporary salary reduction percentage and the number of PLP 2025 leave credits are based on the position’s associated bargaining unit.  The salary range(s) included in this job advertisement do not include the temporary salary reduction.

STATEMENT OF QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Please thoroughly describe your background in PreK-12 or higher education, and if applicable, educator preparation or licensure.
  2. Describe your experience with facilitating the work of an expert or other type of work group. In your description, please detail what the goal of the group was, how you approached the task of organizing the work and assuring that the goal for the group was reached, and how you addressed instances when the group was unable to reach consensus during deliberations.
  3. Please choose one of the following and respond:
    1. Describe your experience with accreditation processes including but not limited to your role in preparing for or otherwise participating in a site visit for WASC, the Commission, or another accrediting body and how this experience shapes your understanding of the need for and implementation of accreditation. This may include your role as an institutional representative or as a site visit reviewer; or,
    2. Describe your experience working with educator credential candidates in either  preservice preparation or in a new educator support or professional development program. What was your role? How did this experience shape your understanding of educator preparation including its importance and implementation and how did it shape your understanding of the Commission’s role?
