Job Description and Duties

The Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) is recruiting to fill an Associate Management Auditor position in the Compliance, Audit, and Accountability Bureau.

Working Conditions

This position is located at POST headquarters in West Sacramento, CA. The office is located in a two-story building with a business park setting.

Regular and consistent attendance is critical to the successful performance of this position.  

This position is Hybrid and may be eligible for telework, in accordance with the Statewide Telework Policy, and will be required to report to the office as needed/required. The successful candidate must reside in California upon appointment.

  1. Describe your experience planning and conducting internal, operational, or compliance audits. Provide a specific example of an engagement you worked on, highlighting the standards followed (e.g., GAGAS, IIA/IPPF), and how you ensured your workpapers and findings were fully supported.
  2. Describe a situation where you identified a significant control weakness, compliance issue, or process breakdown. How did you analyze the root cause, what methodology or tools did you use, and how did you formulate practical, actionable recommendations for management?
  3. Internal audit often requires navigating sensitive topics with program managers and auditees. Describe a time when you delivered difficult audit findings or encountered resistance during an engagement. How did you communicate the findings clearly, maintain professional objectivity, and achieve a constructive resolution?

• Demonstrated knowledge and application of professional auditing standards (e.g., GAGAS/Yellow Book, Global Internal Audit Standards/Red Book).
• Ability to independently plan and execute complex internal audits.
• Proficiency in analytical review, data testing methods, and spreadsheet tools.
• Ability to prepare clear, well-supported audit workpapers in accordance with quality assurance standards.
• Strong written communication skills with experience drafting objective audit findings and root-cause analyses.
• Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills, including experience conducting interviews and presenting findings to program managers.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment as well as independently.
• Ability to prioritize and complete assignments within deadlines.
