HEAVY EQUIPMENT MECHANIC – OCEANO DUNES DISTRICT / OCEANO DUNES AUTO SHOP / OCEANO, CA
This classification is subject to the Post and Bid Process. Applications from a certification list, transfer change in class, reinstatement, re-employment, and training and development assignment candidates will be accepted for this position but consistent with the MOU/Bargaining Agreement BU12/13 contract cannot be acted upon unless the Post & Bid process does not result in a hire.
The reporting location for this position is the Oceano Dunes Auto Shop located at 900 Pacific Blvd, Oceano, CA 93445. This position will work under the direction of the Park Maintenance Supervisor.
The Heavy Equipment Mechanic will work collaboratively alongside another full-time Heavy Equipment Mechanic to manage, construct, repair and maintain automotive and heavy maintenance and construction equipment of approximately 135 fleet for the District. Oceano Dunes District is a high use park, which attracts over 2.2 million visitors annually and due to the nature of the park use, there is an exceptionally high need for automotive maintenance operations oversight. This position is expected to consult and collaborate with all District programs/disciplines as it relates to vehicle repairs and maintenance.
The schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 7:00AM - 3:30PM (subject to change based on operational need). This position is designated as not telework eligible.

The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.
To gain List Eligibility you must successfully complete the civil service exam for Heavy Equipment Mechanic. The next exam cut off date is October 14, 2026. Please see exam information below in the Eligibility Information section.
Per California Code of Regulations (CCR) 599.961, this is a sensitive position, and therefore subject to drug and alcohol testing. It should be noted that testing is not mandatory, but is allowed to be conducted only if and when there is a determination of reasonable suspicion as defined in CCR 599.962.
