Job Description and Duties

PARK INTERPRETIVE SPECIALIST (SEASONAL) ($12.54 - $15.20/HOUR) - SIERRA DISTRICT / LAKE TAHOE SECTOR (EL DORADO COUNTY)

 

The reporting location for this position is the Lake Sector office at Ed Z’Berg Sugar Pine Point SP, located at 7595 W. Lake Blvd., Tahoma, CA 96142.  Primary work locations include (but are not limited to) Ed Z’Berg Sugar Pine Point State Park, DL Bliss State Park and Emerald Bay State Park.

 

This position will work under the direction of the State Park Peace Officer Supervisor (Ranger).  Primary duties will include developing and presenting interpretive programs about the natural and cultural history of the west shore Tahoe State Parks.  Types of programs may include, but are not limited to, Junior Ranger programs, table talks, nature walks, moonlight kayak tours, and evening programs, with a heavy emphasis on black bears and human–bear interactions.  Additionally, the Park Interpretive Specialist will present informal/roving interpretation, assist with explaining park rules and regulations, help organize several special events, including the Tales and Trails Festival, and interact with the local non-profit organization and other Visitor Services staff.  This position is also responsible for tracking statistics for the human/bear management program.  The incumbent must be available holidays/weekends, willing to wear the approved State Park uniform, and provide his or her own transportation.  Desirable qualities include direct experience or coursework in outdoor education, interpretation, and wildlife biology.

 

This position requires a driver’s license.  Please provide proof of eligibility with application.
