We are looking for a self-motivated individual with a creative, agile, and analytical mind. Applicants must have: a scientific or engineering background; experience with GIS or advanced Excel experience (e.g., formulas, data queries, pivot tables, VBA); experience working productively in teams and cooperatively with broad groups of stakeholders; and knowledge of, or experience with, evaluating GHG benefits and carbon sequestration for natural resources or climate adaptation strategies, development of GHG offset protocols, or environmental and economic cost/benefit analyses to reduce GHG emissions.
The most competitive applicants will demonstrate multi-disciplinary experience, which may include: subject matter expertise in natural resources or climate adaptation; some programming abilities (e.g., experience with Python, SQL, or similar); project management experience; knowledge of, or experience with, CARB’s other initiatives; knowledge of, or experience with, implementing regulatory or incentive programs to reduce GHG emissions; strong communication skills, including the ability to translate complex technical issues into concise everyday language, and to communicate persuasively with CARB management, agencies, industries, and other stakeholders; the ability to problem-solve under pressure (e.g., critically evaluate technical data and develop summaries, apply research to inform policy and technical recommendations, and generate high-quality work products, all within short timeframes); and flexibility, tact, and a sense of humor in response to a fast-paced environment with shifting needs and priorities.
