The Delta Stewardship Council (Council) is seeking a dynamic, experienced, and highly-effective individual for an exciting opportunity to serve as a Senior Environmental Planner in the Ecosystem Restoration, Land Use and Scientific Integration Unit within the Planning and Performance Division. This position serves as the staff lead on regional planning, land use, ecosystem management, economics, agricultural sustainability, and groundwater policy issues. The position also supports Council staff efforts on climate adaptation issues. The position offers the opportunity to develop and promote interagency coordination with state and federal agencies, universities, implementing agency staff, and external stakeholders on Delta Plan policy development and implementation. This position requires the incumbent to work productively in a demanding environment and meet short processing time lines when necessary

Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of water, climate, and natural resources issues, environmental data management standards, and geographic information systems (GIS)
Ability to track and report on the status of programs and projects
Ability to analyze data, draw sound conclusions, and present ideas and information both orally and in written form
Hands on experience with regional and local planning policy and experience
Act as lead for land use and regional and local planning content for the Delta Plan
Proficiency in common desktop technology tools such as Excel, Access, Power Point, and other Microsoft products

Statement of Qualification:

  • A short write up, no more than two typed pages, Arial font 12, describing the applicants experience and abilities as related to the duty statement. In additional, the application must include and answer to the following question: 
    • The successful applicant will assist in developing an ecosystem amendment to the Delta Plan. Describe several policy-related opportunities and/or challenges related to land use and ecosystem restoration within the Delta. The answer to the supplemental question must be no more than 1 page, Arial font 12.  

Minimum Qualifications:

Either I
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, or Environmental Design Arts. (Registration as a senior in a recognized institution will admit applicants to the examination, but they must produce evidence of having fulfilled the requirements for graduation before they will be considered eligible for appointment.)
Or II
  • Experience: One year of experience in social or natural environmental planning, environmental research analysis or environmental evaluation. 
AND
  • Education: Equivalent to graduation from college. (Registration as a senior in a recognized institution will admit applicants to the examination, but they must produce evidence of having fulfilled the requirements for graduation before they will be considered eligible for appointment.)
    • (Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.)
Or III
  • Experience: One year of experience in the California state service performing environmental planning related duties in a class comparable in responsibility to Management Services Technician, Range B. 
AND
  • Education: Eighteen semester units of related college courses in social science, natural science, environmental studies, cultural resources, or economics.
