Job Description and Duties

Under the direct supervision of the Supervising Special Investigator II or Commander, Office of Protective Services (OPS), the PO II supervises Peace Officer I at the Community Facility. The facility provides services 24-hours per day, 7 days per week (24/7) and is responsible for ensuring consumer protection, staff safety and public safety at all times.  


As a sworn peace officer under the authority of the California Penal Code, Section 830.38, the POI performs a range of duties expected of a uniformed police officer, including but not limited to: enforcing and maintaining law and order at a DC; ensures that the security and safety procedures, rules, regulations, and policies are followed as necessary for the safety, welfare and protection of individuals and property.


The POII is responsible for the staffing and ensuring that training requirements are met according to the Department mandates and Commission of Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST).  The POII prepares written reports, reviews all written reports, maintains record control systems, identifies personnel issues, equipment needs, establishes office protocols as required, and reports all serious or unusual situations. The PO II may perform other duties as required by his/her supervisor.

The Department of Developmental Services is recruiting to fill multiple Peace Officer II (PO II) positions within the Office of Protective Services (OPS) at Porterville Developmental Center (PDC).

  • The position(s) require(s) a valid California Drivers License (CDL). You must answer the questions addressing your CDL on your application. Ensure you provide your CDL number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and/or restrictions.
  • The position(s) require(s) a Background Investigation be cleared prior to being hired.
  • The position(s) require(s) a(n) POST basic Certificate. You will be required to provide a copy of your certificate prior to being hired.

The Office of Protective Services (OPS) is a Law Enforcement Agency.  After the background check clears, the applicant will be appointed to the position. This background check includes interviews of employment and personal references; and FBI, California DOJ finger print clearances and DMV clearance(s). The selected applicant must complete a notarized waiver for access to their personal records.


Completion of the Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) Basic Academy is required (Please attach certificate to application). And current California driver’s license is required. This is a sworn Peace Officer position pursuant to California Penal Code section 830.3(v). Successful candidate will undergo a complete background investigation, in accordance with the Commission on POST requirements. All appointments subject to pre-employment physical and fingerprint clearance.
