Job Description and Duties

Effective July 1, 2020, in response to the economic crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the California of Human Resources (CalHR) implemented the Personal Leave Program 2020 (PLP 2020).  PLP 2020 directs that each full time employee will continue to work their assigned work schedule and shall receive a 9.23 percent reduction in pay in exchange for 16 hours PLP 2020 leave credits, monthly.  Information regarding the PLP is located is available in the Human Resources Manual, Section 2113, Personal Leave Program (PLP) at http://hrmanual.calhr.ca.gov/Home/ManualItem/1/2113.

Under the direction of the Deputy Secretary of External Affairs and with guidance from External Affairs Associate Secretaries, the Information Officer 1 will perform professional and technical tasks associated with the conduct of a comprehensive program to inform the public of the activities and objectives of the California Health and Human Services Agency (CHHS). This position will also support internal communication efforts to inform CHHS department and office staff.  This position requires the incumbent to maintain consistent and regular attendance; communicate effectively (orally and in writing if both appropriate) in dealing with the public and employees; develop and maintain knowledge and skill related to specific tasks, methodologies, materials, tools and equipment; complete assignments in a timely and efficient manner; and, adhere to California Health and Human Services Agency (CHHS) policies and procedures regarding attendance, leave, and conduct.

Working Conditions

WORK CONDITIONS: This work location is very convenient!  The CDSS is located two blocks from the light rail and public transportation; within walking distance to the State Capitol, parks, restaurants, farmer’s markets and the Golden 1 Arena. We offer  onsite Golden 1 ATM, and workout room. Our building has easy access to I-5, Highway 50 and Highway 80.

Department Information

The California Health and Human Services Agency (CHHS) oversees twelve departments and five offices that provide a range of health care services, social services, mental health services, alcohol and drug services, income assistance, and public health services to Californians from all walks of life. More than 33,000 people work for departments in CHHS at state headquarters in Sacramento, regional offices throughout the state, state institutions and residential facilities serving the mentally ill and people with developmental disabilities.

Describe your skills and experience with the following:

1) Communicating information to the general public and media.

2) Supporting government social media efforts.

3) Managing websites through content management systems like WordPress and SharePoint.

Training and Development assignments may be considered based on the availability of eligible candidates and are subject to approval by the Hiring Authority prior to appointment. Training and Development assignments are considered limited term, 12 months, and may be extended up to 24 months or become permanent.
