California Energy Commission seeks an Energy Commission Specialist II position for the Renewable Portfolio Office in the Renewable Energy Division (RED).

The Energy Commission Specialist II (ECS II) works under the general direction of an Energy Resources Specialist III (S) in the Verification and Compliance Unit. The successful candidate assists in executing the Energy Commission’s roles and responsibilities in administering California’s Renewables Portfolio Standard (RPS) program, with primary responsibility in the reporting and verification of renewable energy generation and procurement using the RPS Online System and other tools.  

This position requires an ability to evaluate, analyze and present recommendations on a range of technical issues related to implementing California’s RPS. Specific tasks will include, but are not limited to:

  • Verifying procurement data submitted by retail sellers and local publicly owned electric utilities for compliance with the RPS program;
  • Verifying technical documentation, maintaining program databases, and completing data collection related to the RPS program;
  • Conducting research and developing staff reports for staff, management and Commissioners;
  • Implementing programmatic changes related to legislative mandates;
  • Interacting with internal and external stakeholders and responding to general program inquiries; and
  • Leading the maintenance and update of online database tools

Statement of Qualifications

MINIMUM SOQ REQUIREMENTS: When completing the SOQ, be sure to title the page “Statement of Qualifications” and include all relevant experience, education, and training for each question below and explain your answers thoroughly.
