Job Description and Duties

*Located in the city of Norwalk in Los Angeles County


Under the Direction of the Supervising Special Investigator or designee.  This is a Peace Officer Classification. Caseload will consist of criminal, administrative, abuse, neglect, exploitation, sexual assaults, internal affairs and death investigations. Must be able to multi-task as you will work on multiple cases at the same time. Computer skills and great attendance is a must.

KNOWLEDGE -Basic rules of grammar of the English language to effectively communicate verbally to a variety of audiences. Principles of the basic rules of grammar of the English language to effectively communicate with clear and concise writing (e.g., proper spelling and grammar of the English language) when preparing and/or reviewing written materials is a must.

ABILITY - Successfully complete departmentally mandated training required to maintain law enforcement related skills (e.g., P.O.S.T. Regulatory investigative techniques), listen attentively and effectively to gain relevant information and differentiate between facts and opinions. Act independently with minimal supervision to complete work assignments or investigative tasks. Flexible in investigative duties and/or work assignments. Record completely and accurately, pertinent information obtained during case investigations and/or work assignments. Understanding how written laws, policies, and codes relate to case investigations and prosecution. Perform job duties in hostile or difficult situations. Verbally communicate in a clear, concise, and effective manner with diverse audiences (e.g., the public, supervisors, co-workers, judges, district attorneys).

Working Conditions

PLEASE NOTE: The California Department of Public Health issued a Public Health Order that workers in various health care settings, including those who work at DSH hospitals, must be vaccinated against COVID-19. Department of State Hospitals – Metropolitan is in the vibrant community of Norwalk,15 miles east of Los Angeles. To the south are entertainment venues like Disneyland, Knott's Berry Farm, the marinas and beaches of Huntington, Newport and Laguna. To the west are Palos Verdes and Marina Del Rey.

Department of State Hospitals - Metropolitan Office of Special Investigations is seeking highly motivated individuals for the position of Investigator -Retired Annuitant .
