Job Description and Duties

The Department of Financial Protection and Innovation (DFPI) (formerly Department of Business Oversight) is recruiting for one permanent/full-time Investigator position in the Enforcement Division. The position will be located in Los Angeles. This recruitment may be used to fill subsequent vacancies of these positions in DFPI within the next 180 days.

Under the general direction of the Deputy Commissioner, or Supervising Special Investigator I, the Investigator independently plans, coordinates and conducts the most complex and sensitive criminal, civil and administrative investigations into violations of the laws, rules, or regulations under the Department’s jurisdiction; gathers and analyzes facts and evidence; prepares clear, concise, and accurate documents and reports detailing case investigation activities and findings in order for departmental counsel to take appropriate action.

Department Information

The Department of Financial Protection and Innovation (DFPI) (formerly Department of Business Oversight) protects consumers and oversees financial service providers and products. The DFPI supervises the operations of state-licensed financial institutions, including banks, credit unions and money transmitters. Additionally, the DFPI licenses and regulates a variety of financial service providers, including securities brokers and dealers, investment advisers, payday lenders and other consumer finance lenders. The incumbent is required to submit a Statement of Economics Interests (Form 700) within 30 days of assuming office, annually by April 1st and within 30 days of leaving office.
