Job Description and Duties

The Energy Research and Development Division (ERDD) deploys over $300 million annually to advance new scientific approaches and technology innovations to meet the state’s clean energy and climate change policies including but not limited to the areas of renewable energy supply, building and industrial decarbonization, sustainable transportation, energy storage, energy distribution, resilience and reliability, and carbon management. The Energy Deployment and Market Facilitation Branch supports clean energy entrepreneurship by helping companies commercialize and scale-up technologies for success in the marketplace through training, resources, and expertise.

Under the direction of a supervisor and in consultation with a technical lead for the Tech-to-Market unit in the Energy Deployment & Market Facilitation Branch, the Electric Generation System Specialist I (EGSS I) performs complex engineering, statistical, and economic analyses of new energy systems. The EGSS I performs independent, varied, and complex technical and analytical work regarding the advancement of successful clean energy entrepreneurship and generation technologies to inform the development and implementation of the state’s energy policies and objectives, including decarbonization, energy affordability, and equity. The EGSS I may serve as a project lead for other technical and analytical staff.

Working Conditions

The CEC supports a hybrid workplace model with office-based and remote-centered workers. Limited in-person attendance and occasional travel may be required based on the needs of the division. Regular and consistent attendance is essential to successful performance. This position is remote-centered, which means the incumbent works 50 percent or more of their time from an alternate work location.

The California Energy Commission seeks an Electric Generation System Specialist I in the Energy Research and Development Division/Energy Deployment & Market Facilitation Branch/Tech-to-Market Unit.
